#illustrovich is an allusion for the long-lasting alias @katifajnovich.
the nickname itself was inspired by emir kusturica’s movies. katifajnovich = katya + ‘ovich
many of the pictures were created listening to the soundtracks.
mooden the cat
there’s a wordplay. an english moody ~ emotional & unsteady and russian мудак [mudak] ~ asshole sound alike. the character is practically a moody asshole of a cat with a slightly hungover human face. he dyes the stripes on his forehead whenever his mood swings. lately he’s been wearing yellow-and-blue colors of ukrainian flag in support.
builder
a soft-quilled hedgehog holding a po-2 cement block fence. this design concrete wall was ubiquitous in the USSR, and to this day there’s practically on every block. builder eats a po-2 like a bar of chocola every once in a while for it might be the only way to dispose of this pattern.
round
the character was inspired by a moscow subway passenger. he had these wild boots on, a puffy short coat that made him look fat & he was bald. round is an attempt to recreate his image.
denis
isn’t really a made-up character, but a real person. katya’s initial work with personas was all based on her uncle, who’s name is denis — her personal muse & favorite person with a bunch of dear details to his image. he’s not only katya’s uncle, but also the godfather & once gave her a present to remind of that relation — a golden hammer & sickle neck pendant, just the size of an orthodox cross.
